The ridiculous and bad Trump Travel Ban

It says a lot about countries which experienced and will undoubtedly experience terrorist attacks again. Countries in Europe, Africa, Asia – the world over. Plenty victims – far too many never making the headlines, an unforgivable number totally forgotten – yet: no travel ban. As for Trump’s dump?

It was a relief that the first Trump Travel Ban was stalled in US courts. It was a relief the second version seemed to go the same way. It was great to learn, some people upheld the US Constitution and its Founding Father’s ideals.

Then the bad, stupid incomprehensible fact: the US Supreme Court allowed a partial ban.

As much discussed the world over: why are some countries on Marmalade Mussolini’s bad guests lists and other countries – with proven track records in terrorism not? Seems certain countries are forgiven all – provided they support Trump’s many enterprises, ensure he makes money, lavishly entertain him and his family and friends.

It is simply disgusting.

The New York Times and Washington Post just broke the news and other media will follow. The definition of bona fide has become clear.

The US State Department, the Trumps, Bannons, Kushners, hangers-on and supporters have come up with some guidelines. American embassies and consulates have received instructions.

You being bombed out of Yemen by Saudi Arabia? Want to migrate to the US to start a safer life? You from Somalia, Iran, Libya, Syria, Sudan and thinking of visiting the USA? Think again – if only you were from Saudi Arabian, or any of the other countries the 9/11 terrorists originated from. For like Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, and Lebanon are not on Trump’s Travel Ban list.

Bear in mind: your close family is welcome. So you can take along your parent and parent-in-law (even your mum-in-law), spouse (not partner), son, daughter, son-in-law, daughter-in-law, your siblings. Any step-versions of these labels are fine too.

Unfortunately, fiancée (male or female), granny and grand-dad, grandchildren, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, brothers- and sisters-in-law and similar extended family members are barred, surplus luggage. They need not apply.

Furthermore, your bona fide relationships must be formally documented and formed “in the ordinary course, rather than for the purpose of evading the Executive Order. … Also a hotel reservation, whether paid or not paid, would not constitute a bona fide relationship with an entity in the US“.

So no exception to the rule if you book a room in any of Trump’s hotels and boost his earnings. If only this was upheld for world leaders and their staff, currently directed to book at a Trump Hotel.

Civil liberties groups are already scratching their heads and talking of “arbitrary definitions of family relationships.”

Other bloggers already point out the Trump administration has proven yet again, to be totally incapable of producing anything decent. Some wonder about grannies being dangerous ISIS terrorists. Many complain about Trump’s list exempting countries where Trump has business interests. Others are angrily stating, the Supreme Court should have fully upheld lower court’s restraining orders.

Personally, I think this bad and ridiculous ban, trumped-up by a corrupt and criminal government, should have been binned months ago.
